We’ve all heard it: Beauty is pain. But it doesn’t have to be. The rise of streetwear, in my opinion, is a girl’s best friend (and men, you can get in on this too). It doesn’t take heels to be dressed up, to be professional, or to be fashionable. Sneakers can get the job done and make your feet a lot happier in the process.
Years ago, I was told by a doctor to get rid of every pair of sandals and heels I owned and to only wear tennis shoes while I awaited foot surgery. As a fashion-lover, the thought didn’t entice me much. However, six years later and more often than not, I’m still wearing sneakers. Now, I still have heels and sandals, but my closet revolves around my sneakers. From Nike Air Max 97s to Beyonce’s Ivy Park, there’s a lot to love when it comes to sneakers.
If these shoes have never been your go to and you don’t know where to start, get a pair of all white sneakers. The beauty of the white sneakers is that they can go with nearly anything that you already wear with dress shoes. I have worn a dress to a semi-formal wedding with heels and, several weeks later, worn the same dress with my white Air Forces for brunch and errands. Not only is it easier on your body, but it adds some more versatility to the clothes in your closet.
Sometimes, we can get stuck in the rut of wearing one shirt with the same pants and with the same shoes creating the same outfit over and over. But even just switching out one type of shoes for another can make a whole new look with a whole new vibe. Don’t limit your favorite pair of jeans to only be paired with the same flats every time. Your jeans deserve the fun that comes with switching it up. It also gives you the option to wear those jeans more than once a week because you are styling them a different way. Switching your heels out for sneakers can provide you that refresh on your wardrobe that you’ve been looking for without buying all new clothes – just a new way to wear them.
This doesn’t mean you throw out your heels and never wear them again. There are definitely occasions they are warranted, and we all love wearing them from time to time. But this gives you the option to dress for fashion and comfort.
For men, I actually find sneakers to be a lot more fashionable with suits than I do your average dress shoe.
Now, hear me loud and clear that this is not meant to be used as ammo in an argument with your wife about why you should be able to wear your running shoes or the ones you mow the lawn in to date night. These aren’t the tennis shoes we are talking about here. I’m talking about some nice white leather sneakers. Pair it with a slim blue suit and you got yourself a homerun, fashionable outfit.
If you’re anything like me, your one new pair of white sneakers will turn into endless styles with every color you’d ever possibly wear. As your shoe collection expands, so do the various roles each outfit in your closet can play. Do yourself a favor and make the investment in a pair of white sneakers. You won’t regret it.
