It’s time to buy those backpacks, refresh the supply of uniforms and tennis shoes and get ready: The start of school is almost here.
Worth noting this year: Several schools in the area have expanded by adding grades.
Jackson Academy is offering a K2 program, so it now offers K2 through twelfth grade. Jackson Prep in Flowood has added kindergarten through fourth grade this year, so its lineup starts with kindergarten and continues through twelfth grade.
Christ Covenant School in Ridgeland has added tenth grade this year, so it now offers pre-K through tenth grade. Revive Collegiate Charter School on Old Canton Road in Jackson added second grade this year, so it now educates students in kindergarten through second grade.
Kicking off the school year the earliest is the Madison County School District. Students in grades 1-12 will report for their first day on Aug. 3. Kindergarten students in the district will have a soft start, with students whose last names begin with A-L attending class on Aug. 3 and students whose last names begin with M-Z attending class on Aug. 4. All kindergarten students will attend class together on Aug. 7.
Aside from the Madison County School District, most schools in the area will start on Aug. 8.
Christ Covenant School students in all grades will gather for Meet the Teacher on Aug. 7 from 2:30-4:40 p.m. and report for the first day on Aug. 8.
First Presbyterian Day School in Jackson will open the school year with a Campus Prayer Walk on Aug. 5 and Meet the Teacher on Aug. 8. The first day of school, a full day, is on Aug. 9. Back to School Night, which is for parents, will be on Aug. 17.
Jackson Academy Preschool (K2-K4) has scheduled times for parents and students to meet their teacher and visit their classrooms on Aug. 8. School will begin on Aug. 10.
JA Lower School parents and students are invited to visit their classrooms and meet their teachers on Aug. 8. Newly enrolled Lower School students are invited to a reception on Aug. 7 at 9 a.m. in the Performing Arts Center. Kindergarten and first grade parents only will have a parent meeting with their child’s homeroom teacher on Aug. 8 at 8 a.m. The JA Lower School will begin on Aug. 10. The Lower School Back to School Night for grades one through five will be on Aug. 22.
All newly enrolled Middle School students at JA are invited to a reception on Aug. 7 from 10-11 a.m. in the Performing Arts Center. Middle School students in grades six through eight and their parents are invited to visit their classrooms on Aug. 8 from 1-3 p.m. Back to School Night for the Middle School will be Aug. 29 at 5:30 p.m. The Middle School will start on Aug. 10.
All newly enrolled Upper School students at JA are invited to a reception on Aug. 7 from 11 a.m. until noon in the Performing Arts Center. The first day of Upper School will be on Aug. 9; students will meet at 8:3 a.m. in the Performing Arts Center and then meet all of their classes in an abbreviated schedule so they can gather books, assignments and instructions for the new year, with the day being completed by 11:45 a.m. Upper School Back to School Night is scheduled on Aug. 29, with parents meeting at 5 p.m. in their student’s first period class and then following through all seven periods of their student’s schedule.
Jackson Prep has scheduled Preschool Welcome Parties on Aug. 3 and Lower School Welcome Parties on Aug. 7. Middle School and Upper School students will receive their schedules and books on Aug. 7.
Jackson Prep Preschool and Lower School students will have a half day of school on Aug. 8. The first full day of school for the 2023-2024 year is Aug. 8.
Madison-Ridgeland Academy has planned new student orientation for Middle School and High School students and new parent orientation for kindergarten students on Aug. 3. Kindergarten Meet Your Teacher for K3, K4 and K5, Elementary Meet Your Teacher for grades one through five and Middle School and High School orientation is scheduled on Aug. 7.
At MRA, the first full day of class for all grades is scheduled on Aug. 8 Back to School Night for grades 1-5 is scheduled Aug. 14; High School Back to School Night, Aug. 15; Middle School Back to School Night, Aug. 16 and Kindergarten Back to School Night, Aug. 21.
Revive Collegiate has scheduled Back to School Night at on Aug. 2 at 5 p.m. The first day of classes will be on Aug. 7 for all students.
St. Anthony Catholic School in Madison has scheduled Back to School Afternoon with the theme, “STA Rocks!” on Aug. 7 from 3:30-5:30 p.m. The first day of school will be Aug. 8.
St. Augustine School in Ridgeland will start back on Aug. 8. Students will meet for a convocation on Aug. 7.
St. Joseph Catholic School in Madison has scheduled new student orientation for grades eight through 12 on Aug. 7 at 11 a.m. in the library. The first day of the 2023-2024 year will be Aug. 8. Back to School Night is planned on Aug. 9 at 6 p.m. in the Fine Arts Building.
St. Richard Catholic School will celebrate Back to School on Aug. 7 from 3-5 p.m. and then meet for the first day of classes on Aug. 8.
St. Andrew’s Episcopal School has planned Meet the Teacher at the Lower School in Jackson on Aug. 14. The first day of school for all divisions will be Aug. 15.
Back to School Night for the Early Childhood Center is scheduled on Aug. 22; for the Lower School, Aug. 24; the Middle School, Aug. 30; and the Upper School, Aug. 31.
