Madison County has entered into interlocal cooperation agreements with both Madison and Ridgeland.
The agreements between the county and cities will provide a dollar amount from the county to the cities for road repairs and resurfacing for the general welfare of the cities and county. The selected roads come from the list of the county’s 2022 Road Plan. The funds should be used by when the agreements terminate on Sept. 30, 2022.
Madison will assume the work necessary and receive a maximum amount of $952,000 to be reimbursed for its 18 selected roads. Madison’s Public Works Director Dexter Shelby said the city isn’t yet aware of the additional dollar amount that will need to be invested by the city to complete the project but they will work to repair all the roads that need attention.
“I’m not sure what that dollar figure will be, but I do know we will continue to pay to bring our streets up to standard,” Shelby said.
Shelby said each of the streets selected are high-priority and were selected after the county asked where the city’s road failures were.
“All those streets were bad streets,” Shelby said. “They received a grade of ‘F’ if you put a letter grade on it. They are just streets that we need to get paved for those alligator cracks or other road failures that we need to address.”
Shelby said they are just waiting for everything to get finalized and for the weather to break at the start of the year and then they will get started. Madison’s list of streets includes Courtland Cove, Florence Drive, Church Street, Baywood Drive. Laramie Court, Woodberry Drive, Wills Lane, Woodland Hills Boulevard, Annandale Parkway East, Ashford Court, Ingleside Road, Timberline Drive, Stone Mill Drive, Bayleaf Lane, Buck Hill Lane, Comstock Lane and Pine Ridge Drive.
Ridgeland is able to receive up to a $1,200,000 reimbursement through the agreement for its 17 roads. Ridgeland’s Public Works Director Alan Hart said these roads were selected as high priority and are anticipated to be completed by the end of Sept. 2022. The city anticipates having to spend an additional $300,000 of the budgeted Ridgeland money to complete the list of roads.
“We continue every year to stay on top of road maintenance by improving the streets that rank as high priority,” Hart said. “This additional funding from Madison County will allow us to make an advance on our long-term maintenance strategy, so we can continue to provide our citizens with great quality roads. We are grateful for Supervisor Steen’s leadership in submitting a list of Ridgeland streets that need to be repaved to the Madison County Board of Supervisors, and we appreciate their support.”
Ridgeland’s roads included are Blue Bird Lane cul-de-sac, Robinwood Lane cul-de-sac, Highland Drive to Highland Colony Parkway to Buckingham Court, Ridgewood Road, Trace Ridge Drive to Honeysuckle Lane to East Jackson Street, Old Town Crossing to West Jackson Street to City Center, Patterson Crossing, Arlington Circle, Trailwood Drive, Sagewood Drive, Woodrun Drive to Jessamine to Arlington, Autumn Crest Drive, Trace Ridge Drive to Jessamine to Honeysuckle, Sagewood Cove, Jessamine Drive, Autumn Crest Cove, and Crestwood Cove.
