Madison County has created its 2023 Road Plan for the year, which consists of the projects that have the possibility of being completed during 2023.
The plan includes 60 roads, which were picked by each of the Madison County Board of Supervisors. Each supervisor is given a certain amount of money, and they prioritize the streets they’d chosen in a consultation with County Engineer Tim Bryan.
“Ultimately, the priority level is up to the supervisors’ discretion, but I might suggest when a different street might be a little better,” Bryan said.
While there are 60 roads on the list, not all of them have funding in place to be completed this year. Last year was a bit of a different year because each of the roads on the 2022 plan had already been funded at the time they were put on there, so all of the roads were completed but this isn’t always the case.
“We try to put on the road plan what we know we can do, but this year, some of the supervisors said to add a road so it is on there in case some of the other roads come in under budget,” Bryan said. “Now, there are a couple of extras on there.”
While a road can be on the plan and not have work done on it, the opposite can’t be done.
“It has to be on the road plan for us to do work on it,” Bryan said. “If it is on the plan, it is available to be funded.”
Bryan said the road plan is important to the county because of both safety and aesthetics.
“Safety is definitely the top priority,” Bryan said. “We want to keep good, smooth and safe streets for the driving public.”
The 2023 Road Plan includes the following projects: Allison Lane, Ashbrooke Road, Bozeman Road, Brooks Road, Canton City Cemetery, 1 Lane (Burks), 2 Lane, Cedar Hill Road, Coker Road, Countryside Place, Crawford Road, Cypress Lake Blvd., Deer Ridge Drive. Devonshire Way, D’lberville Lane, Dinkins Road, Francis Road, Galvez Street, Germantown Lane, Gluckstadt Road, Harbor Cove, Harbor Road, Hardy Road, Hickory Street, Lake Cavalier Road, Lake Circle;
Also, Lake Harbour Road, Lake Village Drive, Livingston Vernon Road, Love-Lacey Road, Luckett Lane, Mansell Road, Monroe Street, Morgan Road, N. Canal Road, N.
