Jerome (Jerry) Pelly passed away April 21 at age 79 after a brief sudden illness. He attended school in St. Louis; graduated from the University of Missouri with a Bachelor of Science degree in Forestry; and was a member of the Jackson Rotary Club. He was a forester in Kentucky before moving to Hawaii where he met his wife, Linda, of almost 46 years at a scuba diving class.
Leaving Hawaii in 1976, the couple moved to Jackson, MS, after he accepted a job at Forestry Suppliers, Inc. and became Vice President of Sales and Marketing. After 25 years, early retirement allowed him to fulfill lifelong dreams to travel, see the world, operate his tree farm in Missouri and spend more time with family and friends. Doing just that, he and Linda spent many years on the road visiting all 50 states, and many provinces in Canada connecting with old friends along the way, as well as making new ones. International trips landed them on 6 of the 7 continents where the adventures and friendships multiplied.
He is preceded in death by his parents, John and Esther Pelly, brothers, Jack and Jim Pelly sisters, Jean Simon and Carol Leimberg, and nephew John Simon - all from St. Louis.
Jerry is survived by his loving wife, Linda, and proudest of his children, son John and wife Kelly (Houston, TX), daughter Malia and husband David Metzner (Atlanta, GA), and his true joys - granddaughters Ella Metzner, Finley Metzner and Elizabeth Pelly. Additionally, he is survived by numerous and beloved nieces, nephews, and cousins.
In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to St. Peter’s By-the-Lake Episcopal Church or his favorite charities -St. Jude Children’s, Shriners, Tunnels to Towers, and Wounded Warriors.
