August is here and it’s time to bring out the backpacks, buy school supplies and get students ready for the first day of class.
Most schools in the area will welcome students for the fall semester and the first day of class on Aug. 9.
At Christ Covenant School in Ridgeland, students are scheduled to return for a half day of classes on Aug. 9. Meet the Teacher is scheduled on Aug. 5, with times varying according to a student’s last name: A-F, 2:30-3 p.m.; G-O, 3-3:0 p.m.; P-Z, 3:30-4 p.m.
First Presbyterian Day School in Jackson students will also head back to the classroom on Aug. 9.
Jackson Academy students in grades 9-12 will kick off the 2021-2022 academic year on Aug. 11 with a half day of classes. After an Upper School assembly, students will meet their classes in an abbreviated schedule so they can gather books, assignments and instructions for the new year.
JA K3 students will have a shortened day on Aug. 11 from 8:15-10 a.m. that will allow them to become more familiar with the building and classrooms before the first day of school.
Students in preschool, Lower School and Middle School at JA will have their first day of school on Aug. 12.
JA has scheduled numerous events for parents and students before the academic officially opens.
Newly enrolled JA students and parents are invited to a reception on Aug. 9 in the Performing Arts Center. The reception for new Lower School students and parents is from 9-10 a.m.; new Upper School students and parents, 10-11 a.m.; and new Middle School students and parents, 11 a.m. until noon.
JA students in pre-school and Lower School should receive, before school starts, a welcome card sent from their teacher through U.S. mail. Parents will receive by email a list of students in their student’s class.
Orientation for JA parents with students in the first grade is scheduled at 8 a.m. on Aug. 10 in the Performing Arts Center and at 8:30 a.m. that day for parents with students in K5. JA pre-school and Lower School students and their parents may visit their new classrooms and meet their teachers on Aug. 10 from 11 a.m. until 3 p.m. during designated times they have been notified about.
JA has scheduled several Back to School Night events. Upper School Back to School Night is scheduled on Aug. 31. Parents will meet in their student’s first-period class at 6 p.m. and follow through all seven periods to meet their student’s teachers.
Middle School Back to School Nights are scheduled on Aug. 30 for fifth and sixth grade and on Aug. 31 for seventh and eighth grade.
At Jackson Prep, a prayer walk for the school community is scheduled on Aug. 8 from 7-8 p.m.
Jackson Prep students will pick up books and receive class schedules on Aug. 12 and start class on Aug. 16. An open house and blessing for the newly renovated Junior High Building is scheduled on Aug. 15 from 2-3:30 p.m.
Students who attend Jackson public schools will return to the classroom on Aug. 9.
For students in Madison County Schools, the first day of school is Aug. 9. The traditional schedule will be modified Aug. 9-13 with students alternating in-class instruction with distance learning, with a full return for all students on Aug. 16.
At Madison-Ridgeland Academy, the first full day of school for all students from K2 through twelfth grade will be on Aug. 10.
Orientation is scheduled at the school on Aug. 5 for new MRA sixth graders from 8:30-9:30 a.m. and new students in grades 7-12 from 11 a.m. until noon. Parents of new kindergarteners will have orientation by video.
MRA has planned Kindergarten Meet Your Teacher and Elementary Meet Your Teacher on Aug. 9. Also scheduled that day is orientation for students in grades 9-12 at 10:45 a.m. in the gym and orientation for students in grades 6-8 at 2:30 p.m., also in the gym.
Students at The Redeemer’s School in Jackson will return to the classroom on Aug. 9.
St. Andrew’s Episcopal School has scheduled Lower School Meet the Teacher on Aug. 11 at the Jackson campus. The first day of school for students in Pre-K to twelfth grade will be on Aug. 12 at both the Jackson and Ridgeland campuses.
Back to School Nights are planned at St. Andrew’s on Aug. 18 for Foundations (infants to age 2), Aug. 24 for Early Childhood, Aug. 25 for the Lower School, Sept. 1 for the Middle School and Sept. 2 for the Upper School.
Saints Celebration is scheduled Aug. 22 at the Ridgeland campus. The consecration of the Chapel of St. Andrew the Apostle on the Ridgeland campus is scheduled in early September. Homecoming will be celebrated on Sept. 24.
Students at St. Anthony Catholic Elementary School in Madison will have their first day of class on Aug. 10. Back to School Night is Aug. 9 from 4-6 p.m.
St. Joseph Catholic High School students will return to the classroom on Aug. 10. On that day, seniors will enjoy a breakfast on the deck from 7-8 a.m. and orientation for seventh graders will take place from 7:55 a.m. until noon on Aug. 10.
Before classes get under way, the St. Joe Student Council has scheduled a retreat from noon until 3 p.m. on Aug. 5 in the school library. A Bruin Booster social is planned on Aug. 6 from 5:30-7 p.m. at St. Joe. The Parents Association board will meet from 5:30-7:30 p. on Aug. 9 in the library.
Back to School Night at St. Joe is on the calendar for Aug. 11 from 6-8 p.m.
St. Richard Catholic School will open its year with a Back to School event on Aug. 8 from 3-5 p.m. and then its first full day of school on August 10.
