Facial coverings are still required if you’re in Jackson or Hinds County.
Masks are optional in the cities of Ridgeland and Madison, both of which fall in line with the executive order from Gov. Tate Reeves that did away with the mask requirement for the state of Mississippi on March 3 at 5 p.m.
The governor’s order, however, does require students still wear masks while in the classroom.
A mask mandate remains in place for Hinds County, which means you’ll need a mask if you’re buying a car tag or doing other business in person.
If you’re doing business in Madison County offices in Canton, you’ll need to wear a mask. The Madison County Tax Assessor’s office in Madison also requires facial coverings.
Wondering why the city of Jackson still requires masks?
Here’s what Jackson Mayor Chokwe Antar Lumumba has said about that: “Now is not the time to let our guard down. Healthcare experts continue to advise that we are not yet at a place to remove masks. The continued evidence of COVID-19 variants supports this recommendation.”
