Madison County is taking measures to repair several roads in the southern part of the county. At the last board meeting, supervisors discussed repairs on Catlett Road and Oakfield Boulevard, and submitted their monthly road report.
A little under $5 million is what the county discussed spending on road repairs this month. During the meeting, the county engineer requested that the board submit a Local Public Agency (LPA) form to get funding from Mississippi Department of Transportation (MDOT) for repairs on Catlett Road. The total cost of the project is around $4 million. The plan is for the county to pay for about $1.5 million and the federal government to pay for $2.5 million for the project.
The work on Catlett Road will span from Stribling Road to Red Fox Lane. After the form is submitted and signed by the board president, MDOT will allocate the money to the county for the project.
The other project, Oakfield Boulevard, has been under way since October, 2020. However, the project ran into an obstacle when construction workers discovered the dirt was too wet to hold up a new road. The county approved giving a supplemental agreement contract to H&M Construction for approximately $78,000 to provide a new “subbase,” which is basically fresher and stronger dirt.
The county also submitted their road report for the month of March. According to the report, the Madison County spent around $54,000 repairing potholes, $12,500 altering the grade of roads, $27,500 paving, $8,900 installing signs, $7,600 repairing and installing culverts, $8,000 on mowing, $890 on digging ditches, and $126,000 on costs associated with road side cleaning, like truck driving and general labor, spending around
