Marilyn Anice Huey Moore died peacefully from complications of Alzheimer’s disease on Tuesday, March 4, 2025. She was 75. She will be remembered for her kindness, humor, infectious laugh, and dedication to her favorite pastime: having fun with the people she loved.
Born July 22, 1949 at the old Baptist Hospital in Jackson to Henry H. and Mildred Phillips Huey, Marilyn attended Provine High School, Hinds Community College, and Mississippi State University, where she studied elementary education. She held positions in Jackson at the Mississippi Museum of Art, St. Andrew’s Episcopal School, and Art Supply Headquarters. Her final professional role was managing the Old Capital Shop for the Mississippi Department of Archives and History.
Marilyn married landscape architect Overton Moore of Baton Rouge on August 19, 1972 at Jackson’s Mynelle Gardens. The two lived in Jacksonville and Houston and had many unforgettable adventures in the early years of their marriage, including driving through Mexico to Guatemala and Honduras in a Volkswagen Campmobile. Marilyn and Overton eventually returned to Jackson and settled, where they had a son, Pal, in 1979. Marilyn was a fountain of support and encouragement for both Overton and Pal, both of whom consider themselves lucky beyond belief to have received so much care and love.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her aunt, Anice P. Temple of Ridgeland.
She is survived by her husband Overton Moore of Fairhope and her son Pal Moore of Austin.
A celebration of Marilyn’s life will be held in Jackson in coming weeks with location and time to be announced.
