Marilyn Stewart Witt, 83, of Jackson died August 24, 2025, following a brief illness. Born in Memphis on August 24, 1942, to Russell Stewart and Velma Stewart, Marilyn spent her childhood in Memphis, graduating from East High School as a member of the “Twelve Year Club” and was also voted “Miss East High.”
Marilyn entered Millsaps College in 1960 where she was a member and served as President of the Chi Omega sorority and she graduated with a degree in education.
Marilyn spent her teaching career in both Dallas and Hudson, Ohio teaching Spanish and English to high school level students. Marilyn and her late husband, Bill, were active members of First Presbyterian Church, enjoyed traveling, theatre, and arts. Marilyn loved her social groups with her favorites being Bridge, Mahjong, Research Club, and Enneagram. She also enjoyed many types of exercise classes with her favorite being Zumba. She volunteered her time teaching homeschool classes in Brandon.
Marilyn was married to Bill for 54 years until his death in 2019. Marilyn is survived by a daughter, Caroline Wellborn Witt of Dallas; a son, Stewart Johnson Witt (Amy) of Brandon; three grandchildren, Olivia Grace Witt, Abigail Elizabeth Witt and Eli Johnson Witt; a brother, Jim Stewart (Traci) of Memphis; and a sister Gwen Ennis (Ken) of Houston.
Services will be at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, August 30, 2025, at First Presbyterian Church in Jackson. Visitation will be held prior to the service at 12 noon to service time in the Greeting Courtyard.
