Gail Summers Evans of Ridgeland announces the engagement of her daughter, Lauren Nicole Evans, to Clayton Howell Newell. the son of Clifford Doyle Newell Jr. of Oxford and Catherine Ann Newell of Shreveport.
The bride-elect is the granddaughter of Robert E. Summers Jr. and Juanita Greer Summers, both of Brookhaven. The prospective bridegroom is the grandson of Clifford Doyle Newell and Vontice Parker Newell, both of Meridian, and David Aldolphus Young and Nancy Howell Young, both of Shreveport.
Dr. Evans is a 2011 graduate of Madison Ridgeland Academy. She earned her bachelor’s degree in nursing from Mississippi College in 2015. In 2024, she completed her doctorate in nursing practice at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga. During this time, Dr. Evans was inducted into the Alpha Lambda Delta honor society. She also received the Agatha Hodgins CRNA Memorial Award, naming her an Outstanding Graduate Nurse Anesthetist. She is currently a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA) with NorthStar Anesthesia at Crestwood Hospital in Huntsville.
Dr. Newell is a 2006 graduate of Captain Shreve High School and earned a bachelor’s degree in biochemistry at Centenary College of Louisiana in 2010. He went on to complete his master’s of biomedical sciences and doctor of medicine degrees, followed by his anesthesia residency and pain fellowship at the University of Mississippi Medical Center. Dr. Newell was inducted into the Alpha Omega Alpha honor society, and received the Leonard W. Fabien Award for Outstanding Achievements in Anesthesiology. In 2023, he joined the Tennessee Valley Pain Consultants in Huntsville where he currently practices as a chronic pain management physician.
The couple will exchange vows on April 5 in the chapel at First Baptist Church of Jackson.
