Mr. and Mrs. Stanley Quinten Smith of Madison announce the engagement of their son, Chadwick Preston Smith, to Madison Kay Heyser, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Tyson E. Heyser of Alpine, Calif.
The bride-elect is the granddaughter of Mary Myers of San Diego, Linda Heyser of Alpine, and Mr. and Mrs. Greg Heyser, also of Alpine.
The prospective bridegroom is the grandson of Anna Lou Mullins of Madison and the late Kenneth E. Mullins of Ridgeland and Clarksdale, as well as the late Mr. and Mrs. Jake Q. Smith of Southaven.
Miss Heyser is a 2011 graduate of Steele Canyon High School and a 2016 marine biology graduate of California State University Long Beach. She received her master’s degree in teaching of biological sciences in 2020. Currently, Miss Heyser is a biology and marine science teacher at Carlsbad High School in Carlsbad, Calif.
Smith is a 2011 graduate of St. Andrew’s Episcopal School. He attended the University of Mississippi, where he was a legacy member of Kappa Sigma fraternity and a member of the Ole Miss Rebels football team for two years. Following the University of Mississippi, Smith joined the U.S. Navy, graduating from Nuclear Field A School in Charleston, S.C., before transferring to San Diego to spend the next five years as an engineer aboard the USS Fort Worth. He earned several awards during his Navy tenure and remains in the U.S. Navy Reserves as an intelligence specialist. Smith is also currently a project manager for Joe’s Paving Company in San Diego.
The couple began dating in San Diego through introductions from mutual friends, with an engagement proposal on the beach following less than a year later. They will exchange marriage vows among family and friends on Saturday, November 23 at Lomas Santa Fe Country Club in Solana Beach, Calif.
