Doctors Elizabeth Wyatt Mitchell and Joseph Blake Mitchell announce the engagement of their daughter, Kallen Elizabeth, to George Wakeland “Wake” Monroe of Jackson.
The bride-elect is the granddaughter of Dr. and Mrs. Forest Kent Wyatt of Cleveland and Mrs. Byron Keith Mitchell and the late Mr. Mitchell of Kennett, Mo., and the late Mr. and Mrs. Norman Garrison of Pensacola.
The prospective bridegroom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Grover Clark Monroe II of Jackson. He is the grandson of the late Mr. and Mrs. Jack Baldwin Wakeland of Jackson and Mr. and Mrs. George Smiley Monroe II of Newton.
Miss Mitchell is a 2020 graduate of St. Andrew’s Episcopal School. She graduated Summa Cum Laude from the Sally McDonnell Barksdale Honors College at the University of Mississippi in 2024 with a bachelor’s degree with a double major in anthropology and psychology and a minor in Italian. While at Ole Miss, she was honored by membership in Phi Beta Kappa and was an active member of Delta Delta Delta sorority. She currently resides in Manhattan and is pursuing a master’s degree in museum studies at New York University.
Monroe is a 2020 graduate of St. Andrew’s Episcopal School. He graduated Summa Cum Laude from the Sally McDonnell Barksdale Honors College and Croft Institute for International Studies at the University of Mississippi with a bachelor’s degree with a double major in biochemistry and international studies and minors in anthropology, biology, and Spanish. While at Ole Miss, Monroe received the Taylor Medal, was honored by membership in Phi Beta Kappa, and was an active member of Delta Psi fraternity. He currently lives in Manhattan and is pursuing a medical degree at the Grossman School of Medicine at New York University.
The couple will exchange vows on June 7 at the Reed House at Live Oaks with a reception to follow.
