Richard Williams, the 74-year-old Mississippi Sports Hall of Famer who remains the only coach ever to take a Mississippi team to the NCAA men’s Final Four, will coach again.
Williams has taken the job as special assistant to the head coach at Southern Miss, where he will work for Jay Ladner, who considers Williams a mentor.

Construction Under Way on Mixed-Use Building in Belhaven Town Center

Construction is under way on a mixed-use building in the Belhaven Town Center development.
Ground was broken in February for the building site, located on the southeast corner of Manship and North streets. When completed, the structure will contain two floors of apartments and commercial space on the bottom floors.

Sara Jane Westmoreland Mitchell died Friday, July 28, at home at the age of 79.
The funeral service will be held at First Presbyterian Church in Pascagoula, Monday, July 31. Visitation will be at noon with the service following at 1 p.m. A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, August 1 at Magnolia Cemetery in Batesville.

Madison County welcomes UPS

The Madison County Economic Development Authority and officials from United Parcel Services, Inc. (UPS) announce the company’s plan to build a new package distribution facility in Ridgeland. The $28.6 million corporate investment will bring 161 jobs with an average annual wage of $57,000 to Madison County.

Water outage planned to repair I-55 North main break

On September 1, Jackson city officials are planning to shut the water off to about 35 businesses along I-55 to repair a main break near the Life Storage facility there.
The water outage will be from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., September 1, so the repairs can be made, according to a press release.
