Current and future baseball players at Millsaps College will train in the newly-dedicated Joy and Will Crenshaw Practice Facility. The 6,000 square-foot building features indoor hitting, pitching and fielding space as well as a 1,000 square-foot player lounge that was converted from existing space in the Hall Activities Center.
The Crenshaws are the grandparents of current Millsaps outfielder Mark Petkovsek Jr.
“Our student-athletes are thrilled to have the opportunity to use a facility like this, and we are grateful to the parents and former players who gave so generously to make this building a reality,” said Jim Page, head baseball coach since 1989. “Their selfless dedication to our baseball program is a critical part of our success over the years and will support us for years to come.”
Page recorded his 800th career victory on Feb. 26, 2022. He has led Millsaps teams to multiple conference championships and NCAA regional berths. In 2013, the Millsaps team made it to the NCAA D-III College World Series.
Groundbreaking for the new facility was held on Aug. 24, 2021. Millsaps Athletic Director Aaron Pelch describes it as one of the finest in the region. The facility will also be utilized by the Millsaps softball team.
“This training space gives our players the best environment to build for success on the playing field,” Pelch said. “It also serves as a great tool for us to recruit student- athletes for future teams. We are really fortunate to have a strong team of supporters who came together and made this happen.”
Designed by Michael Boerner and Jack Allin of Weir Boerner Allin, a Jackson-based architectural firm, the facility was constructed by AnderCorp.
