1. After Katrina, he was in the Super Dome when it reopened.

If you were to ask Walker Tann to tell you about Nix-Tann Real Estate, he would say it is a traditional, family-owned and operated, personal service real estate brokerage in a fast-paced industry.
Tann, a Jackson native, is a third generation realtor and serves as the managing broker at Nix-Tann and Associates. Tann is a graduate of Jackson Prep and earned a degree in business from Mississippi State University.
When Tann was still in school, he was unsure about what he wanted to do in the future, as far as his career. His father convinced him to work at Nix-Tann for three weeks before he made a decision to pursue a graduate degree.
At the end of those three weeks, Tann knew he did not want to leave the real estate industry.
Now, 15 years later, he still feels the same way about the business.
“It’s not your normal, sit at your desk type job,” Tann said of what appealed to him about the business.
The number one thing he loves about real estate is the ability to help people and solve problems for others during an exciting time in their lives.
He has worked in all aspects of the business, from residential and commercial sales to residential and commercial development.
“It’s always exciting, no matter how many times you buy a house,” he said. “I really enjoyed it, and it was fun.”
Nix-Tann stays busy year-round, but Tann said their main season runs from spring through October.
“My mom always says, ‘When the daffodils bloom, it starts again,’” he said.
Including Tann, there are 66 agents working for Nix-Tann that span the entire Jackson metro.
“I have agents as far out as Flora, Puckett and Magee,” Tann said. He added that their office off Lakeland Drive in Jackson is centrally located, so that it is convenient for each agent to reach for their weekly Wednesday meetings.
“Our group here, we have a great culture and everyone cares about each other,” he said.
The company and its agents belong to the local Multiple Listing Service (MLS), which ensures that the general public and all other MLS members have access to every property being marketed through MLS in central Mississippi.
The real estate company officially began in the early ‘70s, but it became Nix-Tann in 1977.
