If you’re like me, living in a time crunch, we tend to scan tweets, headlines, often missing the substance of the matter. One such instance was the dialogue between our Jackson Mayor Chokwe Lamumba and our U.S. Attorney Mike Hurst re Jackson’s rising homicide rate. Attorney Hurst recommended the LeGend Project which was promptly rejected by our mayor.
THIS time my curiosity was piqued enough I made time to read up on it!
First, I was ignorant that our homicide rate is triple that of Chicago?! WHAT?????
How did we miss that critical piece and where are the strategies our mayor has taken to address such horror?
Upon committing a small amount of time, I was in awe of LeGend’s substance.
I recognize that with the backdrop of nationwide protests it is common to reject federal assistance for citizen safety of persons and property. However, it seems to me that collaboration of all the stakeholders including we citizens brings more brain power to any serious problem.
Homicide is a tender and personal issue to our family. Four years ago, in New Orleans we lost our beloved grandson, a sophomore at LSU, shot in the head,
Three racial groups are involved in his investigation. A rainbow of caring, brilliant folks! Kudos to the entirely Afro American detectives and the masters prepared social worker, who assists victim families! Incredible, honorable work this team has rendered both in Michael’s case and showered love/care on our family. Love and smarts are not the privilege of a single ethnicity but are the gifts available to each person, should they “seek Him.”
So rather than eye-catching tweets/headlines, let’s do our homework. LeGend may be worthwhile reading and full discussion. Clearly Project EJECT has been fruitful and has spread all over MS! Another good read. If not LeGend, then together draft your alternative. We challenge all to collaborate together for positive solutions. All our Michael’s matter now and eternally.
