Special to the Sun
Revell Ace Hardware recently opened its seventh Ace Hardware store in northeast Jackson at Deville Plaza Shopping Center in early November. The new 13,700 square foot store will feature a full line of Ace Hardware products including paint; hand and power tools; electrical and plumbing supplies; builders hardware; as well as automotive, lawn and garden, and outdoor power equipment.
The newest Revell Ace Hardware location introduces Hardware for Her, a specialty kitchen and housewares “store within a store” concept unique to the Deville Plaza Shopping Center location. Hardware for Her features lines such as All Clad cookware, Caspari’s exquisite paper products, Messermeister cutlery, Mason Cash mixing bowls, Mosser Glass, Lodge cast iron, and Vitamix blenders.
Hardware for Her carries specialty food lines and a premium coffee line from High Point Roasters, a local Mississippi roaster, specializing in blonde, redhead and brunette roasts. Hardware for Her is the exclusive Mississippi dealer for Farmhouse Pottery, a Vermont based, family-owned and manufactured line of high quality farm-to-table pottery.
Hardware for Her is the result of a 20-year dream for owner Joe Rooks’ wife, Lisa. Growing up in the Mississippi Delta, Lisa enjoyed the best in southern hospitality and developed a lifelong passion for cooking and educating. Since she was a little girl helping her mother in the kitchen, Lisa has been planning, cultivating and developing her desire to share her love of cooking and hospitality with friends as well as the next generation.
She began with a successful handmade pottery business that she operated from home until the demands of homeschooling their three children through junior high school led her to phase out that business. With their youngest son now a freshman at Hinds Community College in Raymond, she is thrilled to see her dream becoming a reality.
Lisa’s close friend, Cindy Carmer, former director of culinary operations at Ramekins in Sonoma, Calif., as well as Melissa Teaf Catering in Napa, Calif., will join in this new venture. Cindy shares Lisa’s passion for cooking and brings a sophisticated level of expertise to the business.
The tradition of family values and enriching the community have guided Revell Hardware Company since Joe Revell and his wife Margaret opened the first store January 1, 1950, in south Jackson at Cook Center on Terry Road.
After serving in World War II, Joe returned home and worked as a traveling hardware salesman with Shapleigh Hardware out of St. Louis. Like others of his generation, he had a strong work ethic, unwavering determination, sound moral values, and a desire to invest in his community. When he opened Revell Hardware at the age of 40, his mission was to provide an extensive line of hardware products with competitive pricing and excellent customer service.
Revell Hardware grew into a thriving business. In 1957, Jack Rooks, a young man with a growing family, and his wife Bettie purchased a one-third interest in the company. He and Joe Revell forged a business relationship and personal friendship that lasted until Revell’s death. When Joe retired in 1974, Jack purchased the remaining two-thirds interest in the business and kept the name Revell Hardware, which had earned the respect of businesses and customers in the south Jackson area.
The Rooks reared seven children in south Jackson, four sons and three daughters. Their eldest son Dunaway, middle son Joe (Joe Revell’s namesake), and youngest son Tim are now the owners and operators of the business. All three grew up working in the business from their early teenage years and are active in its day-to-day operations.
Revell Ace Hardware has continued its commitment to its customers and has expanded from the original location in south Jackson to locations serving Byram, Clinton, Richland, Pearl, and Brandon at Reservoir Square Shopping Center. In addition, Revell owns and operates a dedicated rental and outdoor power center in Pearl (Revell Rental & Outdoor) and a commercial/industrial supply house in Pearl (Revell Supply Group).
Revell Ace Hardware currently has 135 employees in the metro area, 10 of whom comprise an amazing 402 years of experience in the hardware industry. Revell is a 43-year affiliate of the Chicago based cooperative Ace Hardware Corporation, a family of more than 5,000 stores nationwide and growing. Revell represents a comprehensive line of Ace Hardware products, in addition to major brand names such as Craftsman, Big Green Egg, Yeti, Valspar, Stihl hand held outdoor power equipment, Gravely, SCAG and Grasshopper zero turn mowers, Husqvarna riding mowers, walk mowers and tillers, as well as Honda walk mowers and generators.
