When softball games resume this month at Jackson Preparatory School, announcers and press officials alike will enjoy some new digs brought about by a February disaster. The school is about to wrap up work on the two-story press box and concession stand in time for the fast pitch softball season to get under way.
The facility was damaged earlier this year by the Pearl River flood.
Approximately four feet of water got into the first floor according to Prep Athletics Director Will Crosby. “Basically, we had to tear it down and start over.”
The new press box will include some brick façade work around the bottom.
The structure is being constructed by Clay Weeks, a Prep parent whose daughters went through the softball program. The foundation and brick work is being done by Kip Ray, whose daughters currently play softball for the school, Crosby said.
Prep’s fast-pitch softball season is expected to begin on August 11.
