The big screen is coming to Ridgeland, as construction is underway on a six-screen boutique theatre development.
The new Malco Theatre will be located at Renaissance at Colony Park and is slated to open next summer.
According to Malco Vice President and Director of Marketing Karen Melton, the theatre will anchor the second phase of the Renaissance development.
It will be located at the entrance to the new synchronized water and music feature.
The 25,000-square-foot building will feature six all-luxury recliner auditoriums with reserved seating, state-of-the-art Dolby 7.1 digital surround sound and Dolby Atmos audio system in select auditoriums.
“Malco is very excited about bringing a state of the art, cinema to the Ridgeland community,” said Jimmy Tashie, Executive VP of Theatre Operations. “The end product will be something the community will be very proud to have and enjoy for many years to come.”
The Malco Grill will serve up gourmet quick-casual selections, along with a full bar serving beer, wine and cocktails.
The theatre will offer additional amenities, including reloadable gift cards, birthday parties, group discounts for select days and times, corporate rentals and worship space, according to Melton.
Guests can also skip the box office line if they desire, thanks to lobby kiosks that will allow for online and advance ticket collection.
“Our emphasis has always been on quality and we have always stressed the importance of staying ‘ahead of the curve’ in sight and sound technology,” Tashie said. “Our family has been in this business for over 100 years, and we’ve always embraced any new idea that enhances the moviegoing experience for our patrons. We believe these new amenities will add to the already fun and exciting experience of going out to the movies.’’
“Renaissance at Colony Park is pleased and fortunate to have the Malco brand as a part of its merchandising mix,” said Andrew Mattiace, co-owner and developer of the center. “It will truly enrich the entertainment component of the Renaissance experience.”
The Ridgeland Board of Aldermen recently granted Malco Theatres a variance for signage at the new location.
The sign will feature LED bulbs and a digital monitor that will display content, such as movie times and titles. Other theatrical content will be shown, but not video trailers.
“If the entire feature was viewed as a sign, it would exceed the maximum square footage allowable; however, it is much more of an architectural feature than just a sign,” said Alan Hart, Ridgeland Director of Community Development. “It includes several signs within the feature in order to complete the decorative concept. With it being quasi-architectural and quasi-sign, it was best to have the Mayor and Board consider it in a single approval.”
Malco Theatres are based in Memphis and is a family-owned business that recently reached its 100th anniversary. Malco Theatres operates over 350 screens at 34 locations across the Mid-South.
