Four more deaths were reported today in Hinds County and two more were reported in Madison County as the state experienced the highest total daily reports in COVID on the books.
The Mississippi Department of Health reported 1,230 new infections as of 6 p.m., July 15.
The daily infections represent the highest number of new daily cases reported in the state. Meanwhile, another 18 people passed away as a result of the disease, according to health department figures.
Four of the deaths occurred in Hinds County, while two occurred in Madison.
Overall, the number of COVID cases reported in Hinds has hit 3,317, along with 63 deaths. Madison County’s numbers are about half of that, with 1,630 total cases and 42 deaths, figures show.
In all, the state has 39,384 confirmed coronavirus cases, 413 probable cases and 1,283 deaths.
Hinds County experienced a 10 percent increase in cases between July 6 and July 12, with 279 new infections reported. During that same time, Madison saw a nine percent increase, with 119 new cases reported.
So far, one out of every 1,292.7 people in Hinds County has been infected, while one out of every 1,427.6 people in Madison County has the virus.
Statewide, Mississippi has seen more than 6,200 new cases in the last seven days, and is averaging one case per every 1,333 people, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).
The Magnolia State is faring better than most of its neighbors. In the last seven days, Alabama has seen more than 12,000 new cases, while Tennessee has seen more than 13,000 new cases and Louisiana has seen near 14,000, according to the CDC.
Arkansas fares better, with just 5,051 cases reported in the last week.
Nationally, the United States has nearly 3.5 million reported cases, including 136,938 deaths. The hottest spots for COVID activity continue to be Florida, Georgia, Texas, Arizona, California and New York.
