Madison County and the city of Ridgeland will host its annual Household Hazardous Waste Day on Saturday, June 20.
The free event will allow Madison County residents to dispose of hazardous items safely. To participate, residents may drop off acceptable items at Holmes Community College in Ridgeland between 8 a.m. and noon.
Those dropping off hazardous items should enter the Holmes campus from Sunnybrook Drive.
The following is a list of acceptable items: outdoor and indoor paints, artist paints, spray paint cans, thinners, mineral spirits, lacquers, stains, varnishes, waxes, pesticides, herbicides, lawn care products, photographic chemicals, developers, drain cleaners, spa and pool chemicals, household batteries, car batteries, battery acid, pet supplies, rodent supplies, ant bait, insect spray, motor oil, antifreeze, fluorescent light bulbs, fire extinguishers, propane tanks, mercury and tires.
The following electronic items will also be accepted during the event: answering machines, cables, camcorders, CDs, DVDs and DVD players, cell phones, compact disc players, computer equipment, cords, duplicators, electric typewriters, electronic games, fax machines, laptops and laptop batteries, microwave ovens, networking equipment, pagers, PDAs, radios, remote controls, scanners, stereo components, tapes and tape players, telephones, televisions, testing equipment, toasters, VCRs and other electronics.
Unacceptable items are: air conditioners, barbeque grills, dishwashers, dryers, light bulbs, medical waste, mowers, nuclear waste, radioactive waste, refrigerators, thermostats and washers.
