A flag featuring what appears to be a mosquito has a one in 147 chance of being the next state flag.
The Commission to Redesign the State Flag recently released a list of designs making it to the second round of flag selection progress.
Nearly 3,000 designs were submitted to the commission after the previous state flag was retired earlier this summer. The commission has whittled that number down to 147.
One of the remaining choices features a large, black mosquito surrounded by 20 blue stars.
The flag has an oddly similar design to the Hospitality Flag, which was designed by Northsider Laurin Stennis.
Up next, commission members will rank the top 10 choices and during the meeting on August 14, will choose five flags for consideration.
These flags will be placed on the Mississippi Department of Archives and History’s website for public comment.
