Jackson Mayor Chokwe Antar Lumumba has extended the city’s curfew five more days.
Lumumba announced on May 27 that the city would maintain its 11 p.m. to 5 a.m. curfew until at least June 1. Then, the mayor will determine whether a new curfew order would be needed.
The news comes about an hour after Gov. Tate Reeves announced that the state would begin lifting bans on all businesses beginning June 1.
Under the mayor’s order, most travel between 11 p.m. and 5 a.m. will be prohibited. Essential businesses and essential operations may remain open. Essential travel, such as travel required by essential employers, as well as travel seeking emergency care, will be allowed.
