The Madison County board of supervisors voted yesterday to take a few safety measures in county buildings to prevent the spread of COVID-19, including requiring face masks and installing plexiglass dividers.
At the request of County Administrator Shelton Vance, the board voted unanimously to adopt a no mask, no entry policy at all Madison County buildings for both visitors and employees.
Beginning next week, notices will be posted at all county buildings notifying visitors that they may not enter without a face covering.
“I have discussed enforcement of this, and it will be difficult to enforce,” Vance said. However, he said the signs alone should be enough to encourage residents to be compliant.
The policy will include all county buildings and includes county employees.
“Masks have been provided to all county employees who have direct contact with the public,” Vance said. “We have masks available for the remainder of county employees.”
The board also approved a request to purchase a Zoom subscription at the request of the courts to enable them to provide online operations.
In addition to requiring masks and providing an online option for court operations, the county will also move forward with installing plexiglass dividers at several county offices.
The dividers, which will cost approximately $7,385, are not a permanent solution, but could be used for several months. The board voted to move forward with the temporary solution and will evaluate the need to purchase permanent dividers at a later date.
The plexiglass dividers will go up in the Circuit Clerk’s office, Tax Assessor office, Planning and Zoning, Chancery Clerk, Chancery Clerk Records and Ridgeland Tax office.
