Madison Police released this statement last night, following a car chase and arrest:
On May 12, 2020, at approximately 3:45 PM, a Madison Police officer attempted to conduct a traffic stop on a vehicle northbound on Interstate 55 near mile marker 109 in Madison for careless driving and a window tint violation.
Upon activating the police vehicle’s blue lights and siren the vehicle failed to yield and continued northbound on Interstate 55.
The officer pursued the fleeing vehicle at which time the Madison County Sheriff’s Office was notified.
As the vehicle proceeded past the Nissan Plant on the interstate deputies from the Madison County Sheriff’s Office joined the pursuit.
The vehicle exited east at the Canton/Peace Street Exit. Officers continued the pursuit east on Peace Street through Canton.
As the vehicle exited Canton the fleeing vehicle turned north onto Highway 43. The officer and deputies continued pursuing the vehicle until it passed Highway 17 on Highway 43.
After passing the intersection with Highway 17 the driver of the vehicle lost control causing the vehicle to crash into a ditch on the side of the road. The driver and two occupants from the fleeing vehicle were detained.
The driver of the vehicle, identified as Darrell J. Holmes, age 20, of Carthage, MS, was charged with numerous traffic violations, driving with a suspended driver’s license, felony fleeing from law enforcement, and possession of a control substance. The two other occupants of the vehicle were released. There were no injuries during the pursuit and crash.
