Jackson Mayor Chokwe Antar Lumumba told the Sun on June 22 that Public Works Director Robert Miller was still with the capital city.
Miller has been on leave in recent weeks, with some unnamed sources saying he's out on medical leave.
Lumumba would not comment, only saying that Miller was still with Jackson.
"He is still officially with the city."
The mayor later said at a June 22 press conference that he had not accepted any resignation.
Talks have picked up recently, with some people telling the Sun that the public works director had stepped down from the role.
Ward Two Councilman Melvin Priester said he had heard those talks as well, but could not comment on Miller's status until he had heard the news from Miller or the mayor.
Miller joined the city in late 2017, and was appointed by Lumumba. He previously served as deputy director of the New Orleans Sewerage and Water Board.
Since his appointment, the director had led efforts to address problems with the city of Jackson's Siemens contract.
Miller could not be reached for comment.
