Approximately 60 residents of subdivisions in Madison County that are not incorporated gathered last week for the inaugural meeting of the Madison County Property Owners Association (MCPOA).
The group is also open to Madison County homeowners who do not live within a subdivision.
A board of directors was elected which includes representatives from different neighborhoods. Directors include Rusty Hampton, Deerfield; Tammy Castagnoli, Red Oak Plantation; Brad Beattie, First Colony; Bill Buhner, Providence; Heath Ferguson, Greyhawk; Trey Petro, Ashbrooke; and Kerry Minninger, at-large member.
District Two Supervisor Trey Baxter said the organization will allow for open communication and give residents an easier way to stay informed and hold the county accountable.
The county previously attempted to organize a similar group years ago, but it fell apart. The new organization is not connected with the previous attempt.
The organization will rely primarily on social media and electronic communication to get information out to residents. Residents will be contacted with information both via email and a Facebook page.
“This will be a good relay point,” Petro said. “We are very excited about it. This is something new and fresh,” Petro said.
District 73 Representative Cory Wilson, District One Supervisor Sheila Jones, Baxter and District Four Supervisor David Bishop were on hand to answer questions.
The majority of the questions and concerns were about animal control, roads, bridges and infrastructure, Petro said.
The supervisors drove home the point that infrastructure is a priority to them.
Sheriff Randy Tucker reminded residents about the sheriff’s department’s smart phone application, where anyone can access any updates from the department.
Officer TchiaKousky Williams was also introduced as the county’s new Animal Control Officer.
The organization will meet approximately four times a year, according to Petro.
