Have you noticed that as we get older we lose strength, and our joints start aching a little more? Here at OsteoStrong, we help our members change that. We believe that you deserve to feel your best. At OsteoStrong Ridgeland (owners, April and William McKee), we use a breakthrough technology that focuses on strengthening the bones, muscles, and joints. Our members tell us that they have eliminated back/joint pain, making it easier for them to work and play harder. Through our system, they are building stronger bones, improving their metabolism, regaining their balance, and standing taller. Even our young athletes are breaking through plateaus and staying injury free. And on top of all that, it only takes one 10 minute session per week to achieve these results. Amazing right?
Tamar Sharp, resident of Belhaven, has been an active member of OsteoStrong since April of 2019 for her hips and spine. In 2016, doctors discovered that she had osteopenia, a thinning of bone mass and precursor to osteoporosis. By 2018, her osteopenia had turned to osteoporosis. “I looked into the medicine they wanted to put me on and I just didn’t like some of the side effects I was hearing,” Sharp said. “I told them to give me a year to find something else before I started on any medications.” Sharp found William McKee, RN and owner of OsteoStrong Ridgeland, and decided to give his system a try.
Since beginning the program Sharp has reverted her osteoporosis, and has increased her bone strength. “I have seen marked improvements in strength and balance and my osteoporosis has reverted to osteopenia.” Sharp said. McKee opened his first OsteoStrong franchise in Brandon in 2015. Two years ago he moved to his current Ridgeland location that is located off of Rice Road. When he first opened, there were less than 20 OsteoStrong businesses open. Now, there are 120 plus locations in nine different countries worldwide.
Upon entering our building, you will see four machines. These machines (known as Spectrum) strengthen the skeletal system by allowing individuals to apply pressure to different parts of the body to trigger osteogenesis. The process itself is painless, sweat-free and only takes about 10 minutes. Clients have reported improvements in not just their physical health, but also in their overall mental health.
“As a kid, you strengthened your bones through impact loading. For example, if you jump off of your front porch while playing tag with your friends, the impact of that jump puts pressure on your skeletal system which encourages osteogenesis (Wolff’s Law.) As you get older, you stop doing that and your bones become weaker.” McKee says. “With our system, Spectrum, we are able to emulate impact levels needed to create osteogenesis through a process known as osteogenic loading which is a safe, controlled, quick and painless way to promote bone growth. It’s like you’re rejuvenating your skeletal system, helping the bones grow stronger not longer.”
Bekki Little, another member of OsteoStrong Ridgeland started treatment here at OsteoStrong in July of 2019. In January 2020, she had a bone density test and said that she already saw improvements. “At my age, just a little improvement is great and I cannot wait to see what my next bone checkup shows after I have been going for longer than six months.” she said. Little and her husband live in the Madison/ Gluckstadt area, and enjoy bike riding. “I feel stronger and can keep up with my husband on our rides now.” Little said.
McKee assists each member, along with the help of another employee, through the Spectrum equipment. “William is very supportive and makes sure you get the most out of each session.” Tamar Sharp said. “The customer service is great!”
McKee said that due to the quick treatment times, it is ensured that there are always fewer than six people in the building, and equipment is wiped down and sanitized after each use, and before each customer arrives.
