Due to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommendations about limiting gatherings of people to fewer than 10, several annual fundraising events are being postponed or canceled.
The Mississippi Museum of Art, in addition to closing its doors for the time being, has also postponed its annual Art Party and delayed events surrounding the opening of Van Gogh, Monet, Degas, and Their Times: The Mellon Collection of French Art from the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts.
The current plan at this time is for the exhibition to be open on April 4 when regular visiting hours resume.
The annual art party, originally planned for April 3, has been rescheduled for June 12.
Jackson Prep’s annual fundraiser, Party for Prep, has been rescheduled.
The event, hosted by the Jackson Prep Parent and Teacher organization, was originally scheduled for March 27.
Instead, Party for Prep will be held on Thursday, August 6, at the Westin Jackson. This is the Parent and Teacher organization’s only fundraiser, and the funds are used to support the Jackson Prep Patriot Club Annual Fund and the Teacher Endowment Fund, which both directly impact Prep students.
The 2020 Over the Edge event benefiting Friends of Children’s Hospital has been postponed due to the coronavirus pandemic.
Special Events Manager Leslie Owens said the event will not be held later this year, but instead they are planning to transfer all money raised for this year’s event to next year. So, those who raised money this year will instead rappel down the building next year.
This would have been the fifth year for Friends of Children’s Hospital to host its Over the Edge event. Friends of Children’s Hospital typically raises around $150,000 with Over the Edge each year, according to Owens. The goal for this year was to raise $175,000.
Owens said the board will meet in the coming weeks to determine the best ways to offset funds lost from this event for 2020.
However, they have postponed their new car giveaway to allow more time to raise additional funds.
The drawing, originally scheduled for March 27, will be postponed until after the CDC lifts its social distancing and limitations on gatherings of 10 or more people.
So, Owens said ticket sales are being extended in the meantime.
St. Andrews’ Annual Arts on the Green event will be postponed, but the new event date had not been announced at press time.
Bethany Farr, the Arts on the Green chair, issued the following statement: “We are truly grateful for the support of our sponsors, volunteers and community partners during the planning of the 10th anniversary celebration of Arts on the Green. Despite this challenging time, we are continuing to collaborate and are channeling all our energy to make this event unforgettable. We are looking forward with great excitement to seeing the fruits of our labor culminate in the future with a rescheduled event.”
The Garden Club of Jackson recently canceled its annual Spring Garden Tour. The 2020 Spring Garden Tour was scheduled for April 23.
