Jackson has experienced three major floods in the last 41 years, because of rising waters from the Pearl River. Numerous flood control projects have been proposed, but none
have been implemented, leaving residents across the metro area at the mercy of the weather. This year, the rains showed no mercy, as the Pearl rose nearly nine feet above flood
stage, flooding parts of Northeast Jackson, downtown Jackson and Flowood. Meanwhile, the wettest months of the year, March and April, have yet to arrive.
The question remains, how did we get to here, a third flood? This timeline will help shed some light on that question.
