Brown’s Fine Art & Framing is proud to celebrate 60 years as a cherished part of the Jackson community—and as a third-generation, woman-owned family business rooted in love, creativity, and tradition.
In 1965, Mary Grace and James Brown opened Brown’s Frame Shoppe on North State Street with a bold vision and three children under the age of five. What started as a small custom framing venture quickly grew into one of the South’s premier fine art galleries and frame shops, thanks to Mary Grace’s dedication, eye for beauty, and unwavering work ethic.
Mary Grace was joined in the business by her daughter Allison Simmons and son Joel Brown, working side-by-side for decades to uphold the Brown family legacy. In 2020, at the age of 90, Mary Grace officially retired, along with Joel, entrusting the future of Brown’s to Allison and her daughter Emily Simmons Sandoval.
Today, Brown’s continues to thrive in the heart of Fondren, Jackson’s vibrant arts and culture district. As one of the city’s most creative and community-focused neighborhoods, Fondren is a perfect home for a business built on relationships, storytelling, and artistic expression. Being part of this dynamic area has helped us connect more deeply with the people we serve and the artists we represent—many of whom, like us, span generations.
We are proud to be second- and third-generation business owners now serving second- and third-generation customers. These lasting relationships are a true testament to the trust, connection, and care that define our work.
Our team remains committed to showcasing the best in Southern regional art and offering exceptional custom framing that honors both craftsmanship and personal style. With decades of combined experience, we help clients preserve their most meaningful pieces with care and creativity.
As part of our 60th anniversary celebration, we invite you to join us for “Summer in the ‘Sip,” a special group art show featuring exciting new works from all of our artists. The event takes place on August 7 from 5–7 p.m. at the gallery and will include refreshments and live music by the D’Lo Trio. It’s our way of saying thank you to the community that has supported us across the decades—and we hope to see you there.
As we celebrate six decades of service, we are deeply grateful to the artists, collectors, friends, and families who have been part of our journey. We look forward to continuing to grow—with you—for generations to come.
