The Phoenix Club of Jackson will host its Second Annual Backpacks & Brews back-to-school supply drive at Terrace at Belhaven Town Center on Saturday July 22 from 4:00-8:00 p.m. Backpacks & Brews is a fun and casual community event with the purpose of raising funds and school supplies for the Boys and Girls Clubs of Central Mississippi (BGCCM).
This year, Backpacks & Brews will feature food by Two Brothers Smoked Meats out of Starkville, and live music by John Causey. All members of the public are invited to attend, and tickets may be purchased on Eventbrite at https://www.eventbrite.com/e/backpacks-brews-2023-tickets-651992155087?…. PCOJ asks each attendee to bring new unopened school supplies for the kids of BGCCM. Attendees will enjoy the late summer afternoon at Backpacks and Brews with great barbecue, cold drinks, and music at Terrace-Belhaven Town Center.
The Phoenix Club of Jackson is a registered 501(c)(3) and a young-professional organization that raises funds in a social setting to benefit the Boys and Girls Clubs of Central Mississippi. Along with Backpacks & Brews, the Club regularly holds events such as Speakeasy Soiree, an all-inclusive, 1920’s themed party; Seersucker & Sombreros, another all-inclusive event that celebrates Cinco de Mayo combined with the Kentucky Derby; the Phoenix Classic, a golf tournament at the Country Club of Jackson; a 5K Fun Run; and a Tacky Christmas Sweater Party.
This year, Gregory Alston and Myer Mack are serving as President and Vice-President of the Phoenix Club of Jackson. A native of Hattiesburg, Gregory serves in the Office of Attorney General Lynn Fitch where he is the Deputy Director of the Policy Division. Gregory received both his undergraduate and juris doctorate degrees from Ole Miss and has led numerous Ole Miss-affiliated organizations and community organizations prior to his role as President of PCOJ. Myer Mack currently serves as Assistant Vice President/Relationship Consultant for Regions Institutional Services. Myer joined Regions in 2016 and rose through the ranks to become a branch manager. In 2021, Myer was presented the opportunity to work as a Business Strategist in the Institutional Trust Department and transitioned into the Relationship Consultant role in 2023. Myer is also a graduate of Ole Miss.
This past year, with the support of several community donors, partners, and sponsors, the Phoenix Club of Jackson raised a record-breaking $165,000 for BGCCM. The PCOJ’s work would not be possible without its annual and event sponsors. If you are interested in sponsoring an event or supporting PCOJ, please contact Co-Sponsorship Directors Peyton Brown at peyton.brown@cadencebank.com or Caleb Smith at caleb.smith@gclogistics.us. The Phoenix Club of Jackson is the single largest annual donor to the Boys and Girls Clubs of Central Mississippi.
Along with its monetary contributions, PCOJ also plans and coordinates a series of ice cream socials at BGCCM locations in the Jackson area. It kicked off this summer’s series on Monday, June 26 at the Sykes Unit in Jackson. The Club’s members are visionary leaders in the community and meet monthly to hear from community stakeholders at member luncheons. To keep up with PCOJ, you can follow its pages on Facebook, LinkedIn, and Instagram @phoenixclubofjackson.
