Get shopping for school supplies because the start of school is just around the corner.
Worth noting, one school has moved into a new campus, expansions and renovations are under way at numerous schools and two schools in the metro area have expanded the grades they offer.
St. Richard Catholic School will kick off the year at its new campus, which occupies the buildings that once housed Meadowbrook Church of Christ. Christ Covenant School in Ridgeland will have its first class of seniors – a total of 10 students – this school year and Revive Collegiate School at 5301 Old Canton Road in Jackson will offer fourth grade for the first time.
Also worth noting, students in Madison County Schools will have to abide by some new rules for electronic devices.
Under the updated regulations, high school students will be asked to refrain from using any personal electronic devices during instructional class time, a measure aimed at increasing student engagement and focus on academic activities.
Middle School students will be prohibited from using personal electronic devices from the first bell to the last bell of the school day.
The use of personal earbuds, headphones, or any other listening devices will be prohibited at all times during the school day. Headphones will be provided for classes that need to use them.
Revive Collegiate and the Jackson Public Schools are kicking off the first day of class on July 28.
JPS is switching to a modified academic calendar that will include dedicated professional development time by implementing one early release (80 percent day) each month and a full week for fall break in October. Additionally, the district will continue to have five full professional development days throughout the school year.
Students in Madison County Schools will head back on July 31 for the first day of classes. All students in grades 1-12 report on that day.
The Madison County School District kindergarten students will have a soft start; with students whose last names start with A-L attending class on July 31 and students whose last names start with M-Z attending class on Aug. 1. All kindergarten students will be in class together on Aug. 4.
The majority of schools in the area will start classes on Aug. 7, while St. Andrew’s Episcopal School students will report almost a week later on Aug. 13 for their first day of class.
Christ Covenant School has scheduled Meet the Teacher on Aug. 5 and the first day of school on Aug. 7. Meet the Warriors is planned for Sept. 5.
First Presbyterian Day School in Jackson has scheduled Back to School Night for the Early Childhood program through K5 on Aug. 5. Parents and students will have the opportunity to meet the teachers on Aug. 6.
The first full day of classes, which will include lunch and after-school care, will be on Aug. 7. Also on that day will be orientation for sixth grade students and their parents.
On Aug. 3, JA’s parent organization, the Jackson Academy Association, is sponsoring the school’s annual Prayer Walk. The event begins with a small welcome and group prayer and then leads into a self-guided walk around campus where each participant is encouraged to be purposeful and diligent in covering the school with prayer.
Prior to the first full day of classes, JA will offer events where students meet their teachers and visit their classrooms. Meet the Teacher for students in K2 through K4 and kindergarten through fifth grade is on Aug. 5. Students whose last names start with A-G should attend from 9-9:45 a.m.; H-N, 10-10:45 a.m.; and O-Z, 11-11:45 a.m.
A Welcome Back open house for Middle School (sixth through eighth grades) is planned on Aug. 5 from 1-3 p.m. at the school.
Upper School students arrive for a half-day on Aug. 6, where they attend an assembly, then meet with all classes in an abbreviated schedule to gather books, assignments, and instructions for the new year. For the 2025-2026 school year, JA will offer Upper School students four new Advanced Placement options: AP Human Geography-9th Grade; AP Seminar-10th Grade; AP Precalculus-10th/12th Grade; and AP Statistics-12th Grade. These additions will bring JA’s AP offering to 15. Through these courses, students test at the end of the year to earn college credit.
Back to School Night for kindergarten through fifth grade is scheduled on Sept. 9 as a come-and-go event from 5:30-6:30 p.m.; the event is for parents only. A social gathering for parents is planned from 5-5:30 p.m. on the Lower School playground.
The first full day of school at JA will be on Aug. 7.
JA already has these two events on its calendar: A Blue and White Night, the JAA’s biggest fundraiser, on Aug. 16 at the Country Club of Jackson, and the JA Fall Carnival on Oct. 28 at Raider Field at The Brickyard.
Blue and White Night is planned for Aug. 16; Back to School Night, Aug. 24; and Lower School Back to School, Sept. 9.
Jackson Prep Lower School will have Welcome Parties on Aug. 5, and the Middle School and Upper School will have orientation for transfer students that day.
The Jackson Prep Middle and Upper Schools will be on campus on Aug. 6 for Prep Day, where students will receive schedules for the new school year and locker assignments. Students in grades five through seven will have orientation on that day.
The first day of school for the Jackson Prep Lower School will be Aug. 7 and for the Middle School and Upper School, Aug. 8.
A school-wide Prayer Walk is scheduled for Aug. 10. Meet the Patriots is scheduled on Aug. 12 from 6-7:30 p.m. in the school gym. Back to School Night is scheduled on Aug. 19 from 6-8 p.m.
At Madison-Ridgeland Academy, orientation for new students in grades sixth through twelfth will take place on Aug. 6 in Duease Hall. New students in sixth through eighth grades will have orientation from 8:30-9:30 a.m.; new students in tenth through twelfth grades, 11 a.m. until noon; and new students in ninth grade from 1:30-2:30 p.m.
The first full day of school for MRA students in sixth grade through twelfth grade will be Aug. 7. The first full day of school for MRA students in K3 through fifth grade will be Aug. 8.
Meet the Patriots is set for Aug. 11 at 6 p.m. at the football stadium.
Back to School Night for elementary grades at MRA is scheduled on Aug. 18 at 6 p.m. at Duease Hall. Back to School Night for the High School is scheduled on Aug. 19 from 6-7:30 p.m. in Duease Hall and the Back to School Night for grades six through eight is scheduled on Aug. 20 from 6-7:30 p.m. in Du ease Hall. Kindergarten Back to School Night is Aug. 25 at 6 p.m. in the kindergarten building.
St. Joseph Catholic School students will kick off the new school year on Aug. 7 at 8 a.m. A breakfast for the Senior Class on their “Last First Day” is scheduled from 7:15-7:45 a.m. on the Senior Deck.
Students at St. Richard and St. Anthony Catholic School will also have their first day of the new school year on Aug. 7.
St. Anthony students and their families will meet the teachers during a Back to School Afternoon on Aug. 6 from 4-6 p.m.
St. Andrew’s Episcopal School has scheduled orientation for fifth grade students and their parents on Aug. 11 from 8-10 a.m. Ninth graders and new Upper School students will have orientation on Aug. 11 from 8 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. New students in grades six through eight and their parents will meet for orientation on Aug. 11 from 10:15 a.m. until noon.
Meet the Teacher is scheduled on Aug. 12 at the Lower School.
The first day of school for grades Pre-K3 through Grade 12 is Aug. 13.
Aug. 20 is Upper School Back to School Night; Aug. 26, Lower School Back to School Night; and Aug. 28, Middle School Back to School Night. Saints Celebration is scheduled Aug. 29.
