After her father was drafted into the Army in 1944, he moved the family to Starkville, MS. She attended Mississippi A&M, where she met the love of her life, Roland Garretson. They married one week after his graduation in 1953. She worked as a medical technologist while they raised their family in Jackson, MS. She retired from Jackson Medical Associates in 1985. She is survived by her husband of 70 years; sister, Jean Garretson (Harry) of Leakesville, MS; children, Barbara (Beckye) Yarborough of Jackson, M, Roland Garretson, Jr. (Sandra) of Thompson Station, TN, and Grace Shumaker (Tim) of Flowood, MS. She was a long-time member of Trinity Presbyterian Church, and more recently, First Presbyterian Church of Jackson. She loved the Lord and served the church faithfully. One of her greatest joys was being with family, whom she served sacrificially and completely. There was nothing she would not do for them. We will cherish the memories of her singing hymns during household chores, of family trips, playing games, and many advice sessions. She was noted for her candor. She was devoted to her sister, sisters-in-law and Amanda Wigton.
Services will be on January 15, 2024, at Parkway Funeral Home and Cemetery in Ridgeland, MS with visitation at 1 pm and service at 2 pm.
Strength and honor are her clothing;
She shall rejoice in time to come.
She opens her mouth with wisdom, and on her tongue is the law of kindness.
