It seems Oxford is the place to be for Northside graduates this year as almost 100 more students chose Ole Miss over Mississippi State University as their college of choice.
Overall, 270 chose Ole Miss for their higher education, while MSU came in second, with 178 students deciding to go there in the fall.
Other top choices for Northside seniors included Holmes Community College (162 students), Hinds Community College (56 students), Mississippi College (40 students), and University of Southern Mississippi (31 students).
The Northside also promises to be represented at the nation’s military academies and one ivy league school this year. Two will be attending the United States Military Academy at West Point, one will be attending the United States Air Force Academy and one will attend Columbia University in New York City.
Locally, 15 area graduates are going to Jackson State University, seven are going to Millsaps College, five are going to Belhaven University and five are going to Tougaloo College.
Thirty-five students from Madison Central, the Northside’s largest graduation class, are expected to attend Holmes Community College in Ridgeland this fall, while 33 students are expected to attend Ole Miss and 28 are planning to attend MSU. Thirteen students are planning to attend Hinds Community College; eight are planning to attend Mississippi College; and seven are going to the University of Southern Mississippi.
Four students are going to the University of Alabama, while three each will go to Jackson State University and Millsaps College, and two each are enrolling in Belhaven University, East Central Community College and Meridian Community College.
One student each will be attending Belmont University, College of Central Florida, Colorado State University, Columbia College, Columbia University, Copiah-Lincoln Community College, East Mississippi Community College, Georgia Institute of Technology, Louisiana State University, Mississippi Gulf Community College – Jackson County Campus, Mississippi Gulf Community College -Perkinston Campus, NCAA Eligibility Center, Northeast Community College, Oregon State University, Savannah College of Art and Design, Strayer University, Texas A&M University, Tougaloo College, University of Colorado – Colorado Springs, University of Colorado – Denver, University of Denver, University of Georgia, University of Houston, University of Memphis, University of Miami, University of South Alabama and University of the Cumberlands.
Ole Miss was also the top choice for the graduating classes of Madison Ridgeland Academy, St. Joseph Catholic School, Jackson Preparatory School, Jackson Academy and St. Andrew’s Episcopal School.
From MRA, 33 students will cheer on the Rebels in the fall while 27 students have chosen to be a Bulldog. Up next, MRA will be sending five students to Northwest Community College; three each to Holmes Community College and Mississippi College; two each to Louisiana State University, University of Arkansas and Meridian Community College; and one each to Pearl River Community College, University of Alabama, Texas Christian University, Texas Tech University, Itawamba Community College, University of South Alabama, Huntingdon College, Emory University, Jones College, Belhaven University, United States Military Academy at West Point, Copiah-Lincoln Community College, Auburn University, Southwest Mississippi Community College, Southern Virginia University, Louisiana Tech University and Troy University.
Twelve St. Joe students are headed to Oxford this fall, while 11 will be going to Starkville. Seven students will be going to Holmes Community College, while four others will head south to Hattiesburg, as part of the Golden Eagles’ incoming freshman class.
The Bruins will also be represented at other colleges with five students each at Hinds Community College and Copiah Lincoln Community College; four students at Northwest Community College; two students each at Delta State University, Tougaloo College, Mississippi College, University of Alabama, Louisiana State University.
One student each will be headed to Coahoma Community College, Southwest Mississippi Community College, Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College, Meridian Community College, Louisiana Tech, Morehouse College, Auburn University, University of Notre Dame, University of Dallas, University of Colorado – Boulder, University of Tennessee, University of Texas at San Antonio, United States Military Academy at West Point, Xavier University of Louisiana, and Virginia Tech.
An astounding 60 students will be headed to Ole Miss from Jackson Prep this Fall. Prep will be sending 25 to Mississippi State as well as four each to the University of Alabama and the University of Utah. Three students each will be attending the University of Arkansas and the University of Southern Mississippi. Two students each will attend Delta State University, Samford University and Texas Christian University. One student each will be taking classes this fall at the American University of Paris, Auburn University, Baylor University, the Culinary Institute of America, Holmes Community College, Jones College, Louisiana State University, Mississippi College, New York University, Purdue University, University of Michigan and the University of South Alabama.
St. Andrew’s will be sending 23 students to Ole Miss, four to MSU and three students each to Millsaps College and Xavier University of Louisiana. Two students each will be attending classes in the Fall at Dickinson College, Hampton University, Mercer University, Mississippi College, Trinity University, and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. One student each will attend Auburn University, Belhaven University, Belmont University, Boston College, Brigham Young University, Columbia University, Dillard University, Emory University, Hinds Community College, Holmes Community College, Jackson State University, Lipscomb University, Loyola University New Orleans, Meridian Community College, New York University, Oxford College of Emory University, Pearl River Community College, Rochester Institute of Technology, Saint Louis University, Tuskegee University, United States Air Force Academy, University of Alabama at Birmingham, University of Arkansas, University of California San Diego, University of Notre Dame, University of Tennessee, University of Virginia, Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University.
Forty students from Jackson Academy will be going to Ole Miss this fall, while 18 others will be attending Mississippi State. Five will make the short drive to Clinton, to attend Mississippi College while five students will be attending University of Alabama. Four students will attend the University of Southern MS and three will attend Holmes Community College. One student each will attend Alabama State University, Arkansas State University, Ballet Magnificat Trainee Program, Columbia University, Dodge City Community College, Hampton University, Hinds Community College, Jackson State University, Louisiana State University, Millsaps College, Pearl River Community College, Samford University, Savannah College of Art & Design, Sewanee: The University of the South, The Citadel, Thomas More University, Tougaloo College, Tuskegee University, University of Arkansas, and Western Kentucky University.
Holmes Community College was the top choice for Ridgeland High, with 46 students planning to go there in the fall. University of Mississippi was the second choice, with 24 students expected to attend, followed by Hinds Community College with 14 students, MSU with 12, Delta Technical with nine, University of Southern MS with eight, Jackson State University with seven, and Alcorn University with five.
Also from Ridgeland, four students each will attend Mississippi College, Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College and Southern University A&M. Three each will attend Belhaven University, Meridian Community College, Pearl River Community College while two each will attend Copiah- Lincoln Community College, Howard University, Southwest MS Community College, Texas Southern University, and Tougaloo College. One student each are planning to enroll at Alabama State University, Arizona State University, Aveda Institute, Bethel University, Coahoma Community College, College of Healthcare Professions, Delta State University, Itawamba Community College, Jones Community College, Mississippi Delta Community College, Mississippi Valley State University, Oglethorpe University, Real Estate Technical, Rowan University, Rust College, Stillman College, Texas Technical, Tuskegee University, and Xavier University.
Seventy-three Germantown students will be going to Holmes Community College this fall, making the two-year college by far the Maverick’s top choice to continue their education. Fifty-three students opted for Mississippi State; 42 will be going to Ole Miss; 22 will be going to Hinds Community College; 15 will be going to Mississippi College; 13 will be going to East Mississippi Community College; and nine will be attending University of Southern Mississippi.
Six Mavericks will be going to Alcorn University while five will be attending Northwest Community College and four will attend Copiah-Lincoln Community College. Two students each will attend Alabama State University, Samford University, Tulane University, University of Alabama and Jackson State University. One student each will be going to American Musical and Dramatic Academy, Arizona State, Erskine College, Florida Agricultural University, Florida Atlantic, Lincoln College, Louisiana State University, Louisiana Technical College, Michigan State, Prairie View A&M, St. Mary of the Woods, Texas Southern, Tuskegee, University of Alabama at Birmingham, University of Arkansas, Xavier University, Blue Mountain, Mississippi State University for Women, and Rust College.
