The Northside Sun's reporter John Emmerich sat down to gather information concerning the Canton Flea Market on October 9, at the Canton Tourism office in Canton.
The following information was provided, with courtesy, to the Northside Sun by Ace Henley from Canton Tourism, a division of the City of Canton Convention and Visitor's Bureau.
The Canton Flea Market is managed and organized and hosted by Canton Tourism within the Canton city agencies.
There are several hundred vendors at the October Canton Flea Market. There are a minimum of 500 vendors.
The Canton Flea Market is held twice-a-year, on both the 2nd Thursday in May and the 2nd Thursday in October.
Anything hand-crafted and by local and traveling businesses is often sold at the Canton Flea Market, in both May and October.
Almost anything and everything is sold in the Canton Flea Market.
Around the downtown of Canton, even during the Canton Flea Markets, there are at least 15 businesses selling items at their locations on the Historic Downtown Canton Square, in historic Downtown Canton, where they sell retail items year round and including during the Canton Flea Market events.
The Northside Sun asked if Canton was growing in population or declining in population, and the officials interviewed stated that Canton is growing overall and is stable.
Officials referred to the stability attributed to the growth of business in Amazon's new data center on Nissan Parkway, and where Amazon now is the largest employer. And with Nissan maintaining stability as one of Canton's largest employers.
Canton Tourism organizes and names the traditional flea market with the name known formally as the Canton Flea Market and Arts and Crafts Show.
Many travelers from out of state come into Canton for the May and October Canton Flea Markets.
Several visitors visit from within Mississippi and make an annual tradition to visit both the Flea Market in October and the Flea Market in May.
Both events take place on the Historic Canton Downtown Square. Parking is provided in area located to the south of Downtown Canton, at local businesses along South Liberty Street.
This year marks the 60th Anniversary of the Canton Flea Market Arts and Crafts Show.
Canton prides itself on the abilities to continue the Canton Flea Market year after year. The Canton Flea Market creates a place for the community to gather and celebrate artistry.
