In 1929, when Greek immigrant, Angelo “Pop” Primos, opened his first bake shop in Jackson he couldn’t have imagined we’d be celebrating its 90th birthday as we are this year in 2019. From his start in America at a small New Orleans bakery, then working in Gulfport, he continued pursuing his dream of building a life for himself and his family and opening his very own restaurant in Jackson.
All throughout his life, Pop had an infectious drive to create. He shared his love of cooking and his desire to serve the public with his family, bringing them into his vision. And now in 2019, we celebrate the heritage of Primos Cafe—a place where family and friends gather, share a delicious meal, and are greeted warmly by all who work within its walls. This is the realization of Pop’s dream. His strong, work ethic was passed down to his children and grandchildren and even today his grandson, Don Primos carries the torch.
Primos is more than a restaurant; it is an institution, one that has been a part of the lives of many generations of Mississippians, carrying with it the value of quality and delicious food, friendly atmosphere and dedicated service.
In celebrating 90 years, we cherish our long history and honor our Pop and his shared love of this country. We celebrate you, our loyal customers, who have helped make Primos what it is today. Very few restaurants make it to 90 years. For all of us, this accomplishment is a shining reminder of who we are, who we have been, and most importantly Pop’s attitude of service and friendship that we take into the future. We are purveyors of the most basic and binding tradition—gathered goodness around the table. This is who we are. This is our legacy.
