It’s smooth sailing along East Northside Drive now that the busy road has been resurfaced.
“It’s finished except for some of the striping,” said Hinds County Supervisor Robert Graham, who represents District 1 and serves as the board president, on Nov. 8.
Exactly when the striping is completed will depend upon the weather, he said.
A.J. Construction handled the project to resurface the road.
The Legislature earlier this year appropriated $600,000 to Hinds County, for paving, resurfacing, repairing and other improvements to Northside Drive east of I-55.
The funding was among 14 local projects in an appropriations bill meant to improve areas of the city of Jackson and Hinds County, all signed into law by Gov. Tate Reeves.
Joe McDaniel, a Jackson resident, once described a drive along parts of East Northside Drive as “like a mine field.”
Last year, McDaniel hit a pothole on East Northside Drive and cut a hole in one of the tires on his Toyota Prius. “I knew immediately I had ruined the tire,” he said.
McDaniel and his wife built their home on East Cheryl Drive in 1974, and they could not recall any major resurfacing of East Northside Drive being done since then until the current project.
