David and Amy Lancaster, founders of We Will Go Ministries, spoke to The club on Tuesday, Nov. 28th. In 2000, the Lancaster's wanted more out of their Christian lives.
We Will Go is an urban Jackson ministry, occupying eight houses in downtown Jackson off Farish Street. They give away millions of dollars in food and serve 15 percent of the metroplex.
Amy and David have been married 31 years and have three children. They just recently returned from a mission trip in Mozambique. They moved to Jackson 29 years ago.
They spoke of an amazing journey of ministry that neither of them had planned. It was simply God's calling.
They saw there was a great need in Jackson, MS. They server 100 kids in summer camp at the old Farish Street YMCA. "Lot's of children know nothing of the Bible," Amy said. "If a child can't read and write by the third grade, they drop out and 90 percent are either dead or in prison by age 21"
Their heart to see a better Jackson led them to take action and say “We will go.” They began to partner with others with the heart to be neighbors to those in the community.
We Will Go has continued to grow with the help of volunteers, donors, churches, and partners.
We Will Go now focuses efforts on Education, Essential Food, and Engagement.
