The River Hills Open returns to River Hills Club this week, showcasing elite professional women’s tennis while reintroducing a key element of the professional game: trained ball kids.
For the first time in many years, 32 junior members of River Hills Club will take the court as official ball persons, bringing energy, precision, and professionalism to match play. The group has undergone structured training in anticipation, positioning, and match protocol under the direction of River Hills member Jordan Miller.
Often seen leading sessions in his signature captain’s hat, Miller has guided the group through real-match scenarios—preparing them for the pace and expectations of professional competition.
The ball kids will make their debut during the featured singles match at 5:15 PM on opening day of the main draw, Tuesday, March 31st, marking a significant moment for the tournament and the club’s junior community. Subsequent feature matches each evening will be showcasing some international women’s talents along with our local juniors who are expecting to show their “stuff” on the courts in front of the crowds.
“It’s only fitting that a tournament that River Hills has hosted for 25 years would provide the ambiance of a well-run professional event with trained and eager juniors who love the sport, along with all the other details of the event,” said River Hills Club GM, Rob Castorri.
The tournament runs throughout the week, culminating in the championship match on Easter Sunday at 1:00 PM.
Beyond this year’s competition, the River Hills Open has a strong history of featuring future stars of the sport. Notably, Iga Świątek competed in the event in 2018 before rising to become World No. 1 in 2022.
With a professionally displayed main draw, premier sponsorship presence, and enhanced on-court experience, this year’s event continues to position River Hills as a premier stop on the women’s professional tennis circuit.
