The libraries in Madison County have a lot of programs lined up for the month of July.
At the Ridgeland Library, Branch Director Kristen Hillman said she is most excited about the upcoming visit from Terry Vandeventer, who is known as “The Snake Man,” and his reptile friends.
“Mr. Terry has been spreading knowledge about venomous and non-venomous snakes since I was a kid and this will be his final year giving tours,” Hillman said.
The Snake Man will make his appearance on Tuesday, July 19 at 11 a.m. for an informative program for all ages. The Ridgeland Library will also host their Summer Library Program finale on Monday, July 25 at 2 p.m. with their aquatic friends from the Mississippi Aquarium.
Friday, July 22 at 2 p.m. will be the Ridgeland Library’s grand opening and ribbon cutting of their brand new teen space, Club Teen. Club Teen opened earlier this month at the Madison branch and is a big hit. It will feature a collection of fiction and nonfiction titles for teens and young adults, new furniture and a study space including computers. It will also have a gaming center with a Nintendo Switch and Xbox One.
On Thursday, July 28 at 6 p.m., all ages are welcome to come to the library for their Deep Sea Blacklight event in the new teen center. They will turn off the lights and turn black lights on for fun painting in the dark.
“Don’t miss the fun this July at your Ridgeland Library,” Hillman said.
Madison Branch Director Tammie Terry said she is most excited for the painting class they have scheduled for Saturday, July 16 at 10 a.m.
“We have a very talented artist coming to lead this class,” Terry said. “We have a class limit of 15 people, but we still have plenty of room left. Be sure to call 601-856-2749 and ask for Tammie to reserve your spot in the class.”
The theme for the painting class will be surrounding the ocean and beach. The class is for adults, but older teens who wish to come with a parent are welcome as well. They just need to register.
July 18 is the Teen Hawaiian Party for ages 12-18 at 11 a.m. The Snake Man will come to the Madison Library the same day as Ridgeland on the 19th but at 1 p.m. The End of Summer Reading Ocean Party is come and go on July 29 from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. for all ages.
“We are excited to have a variety of programs for all ages,” Youth Librarian Becky Bowen said. “The Teen Hawaiian Party and the End of Summer Reading Party should be a great time to relax, enjoy some games, and end the summer with a blast!”
