Diane Dinkins

A funeral mass was held March 24 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Canton, for Diane Dinkins. Burial was in the Dinkins Family Plot at the Canton City Cemetery.

Diane Dinkins died March 17 at St. Catherine’s Village surrounded by her family.  She was 85. She was born in Jackson September 29, 1932, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Joe T. Dehmer (Jennie Rimes Lampton Dehmer).

She attended St. Joseph Catholic School and Bailey Junior High.  She was graduated from Villa Duchesne High School in St. Louis.  She attended Sophie Newcomb, New Orleans, and Ole Miss where she was a member of Chi Omega sorority.  She graduated MSCW and did an internship in dietetics at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minn.

She was a member of the Junior League of Jackson.  In 1955 she was Queen of the Junior League Carnival Ball.  She was Queen of the Ladies of the Realm in the Memphis Cotton Carnival.

She married Theo H. Dinkins II in June of 1955.  They have been married almost 63 years.  She was a faithful member of St. Richard’s Catholic Church and enjoyed her church circle and small group meetings. She helped her dear friend, Gloria Martinson, when Gleaners Ministry was first introduced to Jackson.  She was a life-long member of the Demitasse Luncheon Club. She devoted most of her life to working in her yard, raising her five children and playing bridge with friends.  She enjoyed quietly doing for others with a generous and loving spirit. Diane and Theo moved to St. Catherine’s Village 10 years ago where they knew old friends and made many new ones.  She and Theo were daily communicants at the Mass in the Chapel at St. Catherine’s.  Diane was often seen taking home-baked treats to those who lived there.  She loved cooking her favorite recipes for family gatherings.

After her cancer diagnosis, she would always express how grateful she was for each day and expressed how blessed she had been.

Her parents preceded her in death.  She is survived by her husband, Theo H. Dinkins II; brother Joe T. Dehmer Jr. (Dot-t); her uncle Leslie Lampton Jr. (Dot Lee).
