Mississippi Organ Recovery Agency (MORA) recently honored St. Dominic Hospital team members with SPERO Awards in two categories:
The SPERO Awards are a program started by MORA over a decade ago to recognize hospital partners, medical professionals, and community partners who help make the Donate Life mission possible. The Awards, now presented quarterly, derive their name from the Latin word “Spero,” meaning “HOPE.” This hope is at the core of organ and tissue donation, benefiting both transplant recipients and donor families. The collective efforts of hospital partners, healthcare professionals, donor families, volunteers, supporters, and corporate partners are essential in advancing our lifesaving and healing work.
“These awards celebrate the everyday acts that make hope tangible for donor families and recipients,” said Jeremy Tinnerello, market president at FMOL Health | St. Dominic. “We’re grateful for the example set by our Neuro ICU nurses and our Security team, and for our partnership with MORA in advancing donation across Mississippi.”
“Our collaboration with St. Dominic Health is built on a shared mission to save and heal lives. Their dedication to excellence and their deep compassion for donor families, as exemplified by these most recent SPERO Award winners, continue to elevate the standard of care and strengthen the foundation of donation in Mississippi,” said Kevin Stump, CEO, MORA.
The SPERO Award for Nurse Champion honors and recognizes a nurse who shows extraordinary initiative in his/her support and assistance with organ and tissue donation. This nurse provides compassionate care to potential donor families while collaborating with hospital and MORA staff to maximize donation opportunities. MORA staff was pleased to recognize two special nurses, Grace Xander and Jennifer Blue. We honor them for their compassion, teamwork, and the collaboration that MORA and St Dominic strive towards to make organ donation possible and successful. They are consistently present for support without hesitation and ensure every donor receives the best possible care.
The SPERO Award for Most Supportive Care Team recognizes a unit that demonstrates exceptional collaboration and dedication. This team plays a vital role in ensuring that hospital operations within its scope run smoothly and efficiently. Officer Johnson and the Security Team at St. Dominic Health are recognized for their efficiency and commitment to excellence. The support of hospital security is essential to the coordination and success of every donor case, from facilitating clear communication and safe access to assisting with Honor Walks.
