At approximately 8:45 p.m. Tuesday, first responders were called to a fatal accident on Hwy. 82 eastbound near Hathcock Road in Winona. The collision involved a Montgomery County Sheriff's deputy's vehicle and a tractor. After the collision, the deputy's vehicle came to rest in the median, while the overturned tractor was found in the right lane. The deputy's vehicle sustained front-end damage. The tractor driver was pronounced dead at the scene by Montgomery County Coroner Allan Pratt.
Responding agencies included Mississippi Highway Patrol, Montgomery County Sheriff's Office, Winona Police Department, MedStat Emergency Medical Services, and the Winona Fire Department. Traffic on Highway 82 East was stopped for over an hour due to the accident.
