Tomás Romelio Blackwell, 70, of Brandon passed away on August 17, 2025. Tomás was born in Shreveport on February 13, 1955 but at an early age his family moved to Jackson where he resided for most of his life.
Tomás attended Millsaps College where he graduated cum laude in 1983, with a BS in history. There he joined Lambda Chi Alpha fraternity and many of his fraternity brothers have remained lifelong friends. He did graduate studies at the School of Architecture at Mississippi State under Arnie Aho.
He was a great admirer of beautiful architecture and worked for the Mississippi Department of Archives as a Historic Preservation Specialist. Tomás worked on many buildings in Jackson (i.e. The Governor’s Mansion) and around the State to preserve their beauty and historical integrity.
Initially a member of All Saints Episcopal Church in Jackson, Tomas later moved his membership to St Andrew’s Episcopal Cathedral. He carried on his mother’s family’s love of choral music by lending his rich baritone voice to the St Andrew's Choir.
Tomás is preceded in death by his parents Tom and Isabel Blackwell. He is survived by his sister, Eliana Blackwell Bloodworth, brother-in-law Rev. Lee Bloodworth, their children, Andy and Alyse Bloodworth, and numerous aunts and cousins. He was a beloved son, brother, uncle and friend.
His memorial service will be held at St Andrew’s Episcopal Cathedral Chapel on September 25th, 2025 at 2:00 p.m. Visitation will be in St Francis Hall near the Chapel, from 1 to 2 p.m. He will be interred in Houston at a later date.
