Mr. and Mrs. George Frederich Troxell of Baton Rouge announce the marriage of their daughter Maggie Elizabeth, to John Sharpless McIntyre IV, son of Mr. and Mrs. John Sharpless McIntyre III of Ridgeland at Saint Joseph Cathedral in Baton Rouge, March 29. The Very Reverend Jamin Scott David presided.
The bride is the granddaughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Wilfred Joseph Melancon, Emery Lee Broussard, Florie Smith Troxell and the late Marlin Henry Troxell Sr., all of Baton Rouge. The bridegroom is the grandson of Gail Escobar Taylor and the late Richard Earl Taylor of Hattiesburg, and Mr. and Mrs. John Sharpless McIntyre Jr. of Ridgeland.
Escorted by her father, the bride entered the church to Schubert’s “Ave Maria,” sung by her middle school teacher Lauren Serpas, who was accompanied by the Saint Joseph Cathedral Women’s Schola and organist David Summers.
The bride wore a silk faille designer gown with a custom Mikado cape featuring sculptural rosettes. Sewn inside the gown was the handkerchief her mother carried on her wedding day, along with an embroidered state of Louisiana handkerchief. The bride also wore a pair of emerald and diamond earrings, a gift from her parents. Her cathedral veil was made of silk French tulle. The bride carried her late maternal grandmother’s pearl rosary, interwoven through a stem of Hyacinth, which was the street her family lived on when she was born.
Maid of honor was Catherine Sweeney. Bridesmaids included Brooke Atkinson, Sydney Cunningham, Grace Perkins, Mary Elizabeth Scott, Anna Raetzsch, Margaret Schexnaildre, Elizabeth Grace Sylvest, and Sarah Town. Each chose her own dress in shades of pink, chartreuse, yellow, and orange. They carried circular purse-inspired bouquets of colorful florals and calla lilies.
Program attendants and greeters were Eliza Brantley, Lucy Heaton and Martha Town. Flower girl was Elizabeth “Libby” Loeffel and ring bearer was Reed Bateman “Bates” Loeffel, niece and nephew of the bridegroom.
The bridegroom’s father was best man. Groomsmen were the bridegroom’s cousin Miles Merrell, Parker Gilbert, Harper Pickering, Charlie Chambers, Riley Devlin, Zach Kalin, Preston Perkins, and Miles Roy. Ushers were Parker Cole, Davis Magee, Kolton Grimsley and Haden Robbins,.
Cross bearer was George Troxell Jr., brother of the bride. The scripture readings were read by Taylor McIntyre Loeffel and Catherine McIntyre Wilson, sisters of the bridegroom. The prayers of the faithful were read by Kayla and William Little, cousins of the bride. Eucharistic minister was Amelia-Ann Braud. Gift bearers were Kate and Carter Reed, cousins of the bride; and Wendy and Jay Cole.
Following the ceremony, the bride’s parents hosted a reception at City Club of Baton Rouge. Guests were treated to a jazz band, The Michael Foster Project, on the entrance steps of the club. Passed hors d’oeuvres for cocktail hour included crabmeat beignets, chicken en brochette with pepper jelly glaze, and raspberry brie en phyllo.
The couple opened the reception with their first dance to Ray Charles’ “Hallelujah I Love Her So.” The bride and her father then danced to Frank Sinatra’s “My Way,” followed by the bridegroom and his mother’s dance to Paul Simon’s “Loves Me Like a Rock.”
Guests then enjoyed traditional Louisiana fare including chargrilled oysters on the patio, boiled shrimp, grits and grillades, chicken and sausage gumbo, meat pies, and prime rib. Late-night snacks of chicken on a stick and corn dogs were enjoyed by Ole Miss and LSU fans. The wedding cake was a white almond buttercream with colorful florals. The bridegroom’s cake was chocolate raspberry set underneath a replica of an Ole Miss tent. Compozitionz Band of Jackson entertained with Motown music. The couple departed in a vintage Lincoln Continental convertible.
On the eve of the wedding, the parents of the bridegroom hosted a cocktail hour and seated rehearsal dinner at the Baton Rouge Country Club.
Upon returning from a wedding trip across Italy, the couple is making their home in Ridgeland. The bride is associated with an online advertising firm, and the bridegroom, who is a Certified Public Accountant, works as a consultant at PYA.
