The Board of Trustees for the Institutions of Higher Learning gave approval for the University of Mississippi Medical Center (UMMC) to begin the bond process for its facility in Ridgeland on April 25 in a special called meeting.
The project, with a nearly $10.6 million budget, is currently in the design phase for the facility that will be built along Colony Park in Ridgeland. UMMC is now seeking bonds as a funding source for the project following the board’s approval. The project began in June of last year with design fees having a budget of $1.6 million. The new budget for the project will allow it to move forward.
This new facility will serve as a campus for the training of health professionals and furthering the university’s academic research mission. According to the board documents, it will provide a much-needed multidisciplinary, educational campus to facilitate the work of the School of Medicine, School of Nursing, Graduate Medical Education programs, and the teaching hospital. The campus will consist of multimedia classrooms, a medical office building, ambulatory surgical center and an imaging center.
UMMC declined to comment further on the project.
