If I was a staunch democrat I would be delighted with Kamala Harris' acceptance speech at the DNC convention. The theme of the convention was "joy'" and Kamala certainly provided that--this time without giggles. She was very forceful in her defense of Israel having the ability to defend itself from aggression after the October 7 Hamas raid ("My," I thought, this sounds promising!) But without hardly catching her breath she then attempted to straddle the fence by saying that the subsequent loss of innocent life in Gaza has to be condemned. (She didn't mention the US citizens who are being held hostage by Hamas.)
Kamala has slid into the nomination without winning any election. She was nominated, then appointed by Bidden in the 2021 presidential process because she presented a possible threat to his election chances, This possibility resulted from Joe's past association with a racial group. She gave the story of a girl having problems of racism on a school bus, and "I was that little girl,” she said. That statement probably got her the VP position. Much, much later Biden made a terrible showing in the debate with Trump. He was subsequently forced out of consideration for the next election by Pelosi and the democratic elite. Then the mantle fell on Kamala. She inherited (not won) the delegate votes from Biden.
During her nomination speech Kamala made no mention of her previous position as Border Czar under Biden for obvious reasons. In fact, after a short "thank you" to Joe, she tried to distance herself from her previous part in the Bidden administration. She gave a few policy objectives but provided no details. I expect her to avoid giving those details until she may be forced to reveal them in debating Trump on September 19 as arranged by ABC. She declined to debate him September 4 on Fox. The less exposure to questions on details about her positions is desirable to her because she wishes to appear a centrist rather than the far-left democrat that she really is. Also, as I'll describe below, she performs poorly with impromptu statements.
A subsequent development after the convention is the switch of RF Kenndy Jr. from Democrat to support of Trump. It is more a question of the Democratic Party leaving him rather than him leaving the party. There is little resemblance of what the DNC is trying to do now compared with that of decades ago. RFK's chief assistant says that Kamala will be a "puppet" of the democratic elite. Kamala has few ideas of her own. In fact, her one announced detail that she would eliminate tax on tips was copied directly from Trump's declaration a few weeks earlier. RFK Jr's father, Robert Kennedy, was assassinated June 5,1968. Even now all these years later there are some federal files that remain sealed. If elected Trump vowed to release those files and to establish a commission on Presidential assassination attempts. The 19-year-old who shot Trump had three encrypted accounts set up in Europe. How did this youngster know how to do that? So many questions! The FBI says that they will have a careful examination of all this matter and then eventually give a complete report. I hope it won't be like their investigation of the cocaine left in the WH screening room. The results of their careful examination have never been revealed. (Know anyone who visited the WH with a drug problem?)
Back to the Harris acceptance speech. It was obviously produced by a speechwriter and was read by Kamala from her teleprompter. How would she perform without these two assists? Here are two examples:
"We must together. Work together. To see where we are, where we are headed, Where we are going and our vision for where we should be. But also, to see it as a moment, yes, together address the challenges and to work with the opportunities that we are presented by this moment." What does that word salad mean?
Next: "It is time for us to do what we have been doing. But that time is every day. Every day it is time for us to agree that there are things and tools that are available to us."
These are but two of the many word salads concocted by this presidential nominee. How do you feel about her having the nuclear button on her desk?
