We can be going through hell, and all that people will notice is that we're not showing up for them as they're used to.

People often keep in touch with us for their own benefit. They call from time to time, not out of care for you, but just to maintain access for their times of need.
If you're known as a strong person, you should have places where you go for strength and support.
Most of your social relationships will be tilted away from you. You'll have more people who feed on you than those who feed you.
